Happy (Belated) New Year, Everyone. hmr-2016-kindle-cover

With the end of 2016, I happily announce that everything written here last year is now available through Amazon in either paperback or kindle ebook format. While I wasn’t able to get anywhere near the amount of stories written as I’d shot for, I can proudly say that I finished out the year with one extra story and that I’m satisfied with everything that I did produce. As well, while compiling and editing everything for Half-Mad Rantings: 2016, I realized that the 2015 edition had never been converted over into an ebook edition, so I went ahead and did that. The HMR: 2015 ebook can be found here for those that are interested.

Onto the news:

This coming year I won’t be regularly publishing any short stories. I have three longer works already being cooked up and in production, along with the story ideas that didn’t get written from this past year. I’ll be working on those with an eye toward just publishing the lot at the end of 2017 and if I get the chance to publish some shorter stories here throughout the year, I will. I’ve also changed over the stories listed under “Flash Fiction” above to represent a good sample of the work produced here over the last four years (and I may switch that up some point later in the year). So, even if I go silent for a good long time, rest assured that I haven’t thrown in the towel.

Edit: I had a version of this all set up and loaded last night, using WordPress’ new interface. Something got bungled and it made the “archived” page for this story (findable under the “Flash Fiction” tab above) the actual post. *sigh*

Happy New Year!

As I work on editing and wrapping up Half-Mad Rantings: 2014 (which should be ready to go in the next couple of weeks), we have the first Flash Fiction Challenge of 2015: “Who the F**ck is My D&D Character”, utilizing the eponymous website that randomly generates the outline of a D&D character concept to come up with a protagonist for your story. I “drew” something along the lines of “a grouchy human fighter from an unchartable island who believes they’re a demi-god, but is searching for their father” and while said character is definitely one of the principals, I was getting a “Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser” feel as I wrote and included a second protagonist as the main POV character. So, I hope you’ll enjoy “In a Tavern”:

Half-Mad Rantings Cover sp2013

So, as I mentioned earlier in the week, I’ve been working on editing HMR: Spring 2013 for re-release. It’s finally up and available for sale as of this morning, with a brand-new cover (since, you know, portrait orientation looks more “bookish” than landscape). So, if you haven’t gone to get your hands on it, do!

And in a few more weeks HMR: Summer 2013 will be joining it.

Sunna’s Journey is finally in paperback (okay…that’s not totally true: it was in paperback as of the end of May through the Magical Druid, but now it’s also available through my Lulu store)! You can get it here in paperback or here for the Amazon Kindle.

That’s all for now, since this new job is kicking my butt and I need to hit the hay. : P

So, this last week has been a busy one for me: the wife was sick over the weekend, I had errands early in the week that needed getting-done, I was down for the count with something on Wednesday, and yesterday I spent most of the day pounding out the typed-words. Those who follow this lil’ blog will probably note that I didn’t do any kind of Flash Fiction Challenge this past week, primarily because of things listed above, but also because I really wasn’t inspired by the writing prompt.

*shrug* Shit happens.

But, I can proudly say that I finished the first draft of the first “Raiment of Stars” story that I mentioned previously. Clocking in at ~27k words, I’m really happy with the way it’s turned out thus far, and can’t wait for my beta-readers to get back to me with their feedback. In lieu of a Flash Fiction piece from last week’s challenge, though, I figured I would post an except from the first story (working title is “The Hero”, that will change once I come up with something a little snappier). Hopefully, y’all will enjoy. : )
